ADVANCED HANDGUN The concealed carry firearms course, while the requirement for obtaining a Concealed Carry Endorsement, is a very basic course in handgun marksmanship and safety, with a minimum of tactical instruction. The Advanced Handgun Course picks up where concealed carry stopped, going in depth into the topics of instinct shooting, shoulder point shooting, deployment of concealed weapons from various forms of concealed carry, shooting from different positions, low light shooting and stress combat. We will also develop for the student a meaningful practice program to allow the shooter to make the best of limited practice time and ammunition. Range time will be devoted to the dynamics of moving and shooting, addressing multiple targets at different distances, moving tactically from cover, and the day will culminate in using all these skills in a tactical exercise. This is a one day course (12 hours). The cost is $150.00. CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION It is bad enough when utilities and conveniences we depend on daily are unavailable to us, due to natural causes. It is usually only a matter time until utilities, water and communications are restored to us, so that we can get on with our busy lives. However, if we lose these aspects of Critical Infrastructure due to some man-made disaster, we can expect to be without them for a much longer period of time, and they may never be restored to their former capacity because of the design and impact of the devastation. In these uncertain times, we have to be proactive in the protection of our Critical Infrastructure. This course, an advanced Security Specialist training program, addresses what to look for, how to defend against various threats, and what items of Critical Infrastructure are most likely to be targeted by terrorists, foreign or domestic. Most commonly identified as Critical Infrastructure include: Agriculture, banking/finance, chemicals and hazardous waste, defense industrial base, energy, emergency services, food, government, information and telecommunications, transportation, postal and shipping services, public health and water. Also identified as key assets include: National Monuments and icons, Nuclear power plants, dams, government facilities and commercial assets. During this course, we will detail how to conduct a threat assessment of the facility ; Development of a plan to address the threats; training the rapid response team; and plan for recovery after an incident. We will also discuss the threat to such soft targets as schools, churches, large outdoor public gatherings, stadiums and arenas, and performance venues. For all of these areas we will discuss potential indicators of terrorist activities, common vulnerabilities, and protective measures that are recommended. We will discuss Improvised Explosive Devices, Suicide Bombers, and Response to Bomb Threats. We will also discuss Active Shooter strategies and tactics to deal with an intruder in any type of facility. This is a two-day course that will be conducted in the classroom on the first day, and will culminate in practical exercises on Day Two that will require the attendee to conduct surveillance, review surveillance media for threat indicators, development of a plan to protect a site, formation of a response team and deployment of the team to a simulated threat on the facility. The cost of this course is $250.00 per attendee, with a minimum of four and maximum of eight to make up a class. It will be conducted on a Saturday and Sunday. TACTICAL SHOTGUN The effective use of a shotgun in a tactical environment relies on the shooter's ability to manipulate the shot gun, manage ammunition, and hit the target. The shotgun is not just a weapon that can be pointed in the general direction of the target, but is a precision weapon, capable of not only highly accurate shooting at distances up to 100 yards, but it is also a very versatile weapon that can be used not only as a rifle with slug ammunition, but can be used to deploy multiple projectile munitions, chemical agents, other less lethal munitions, and can be used to take down doors in dynamic entry situations. During this course, we will become familiar with how and why the shotgun works, how to properly maintain the shotgun, advantages and disadvantages of various after-market accessories, the use of the shotgun in conjunction with a secondary weapon, the use of the shotgun in searching open areas, or confined spaces, addressing multiple threats and multiple distances, fighting from cover, moving from cover, tactical reloading and long range marksmanship with the shotgun. This is an eight hour course, and the cost is $100.00. There is a minimum of four attendees and maximum of eight attendees required for this class. TACTICAL RIFLE This course is designed for the student who has both the need and authority to operate in a tactical environment. The course will address the tactical mindset that is basic to winning in a combat situation. The care and maintenance of the patrol rifle will be discussed in detail. Battlesight Zeroing (BZO) will be discussed and accomplished on each student's rifle prior to marksmanship live fire. We will also discuss such combat techniques as the deployment of the rifle in room clearing and other close quarters combat environments; the advantages and disadvantages of various after-market accessories to the patrol rifle; speed reloading; transition from primary to secondary weapons. This is a 12 hour course, two-thirds of which will be the range. The cost of this course is $150.00 and requires a minimum of four students and maximum of eight students to make the class. FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE This course is designed to prepare the participant to develop and present their own course, not only in firearms, but also other topics. Since it is an Instructor Development Course, while the subject matter discussed in class will be firearms oriented, there will also be general instructional techniques, that can be applied to any topic, presented in The Role of the Instructor, Principles of Learning, Facilitator Learning and other adult learning techniques, Public Speaking, Test Construction, Use of Training Aids, Classroom Management, Source Document Construction, Lesson Plan Construction, Practical Exercises in classroom presentation and range management. The classroom portions of this course will be held over several Wednesday nights (18:00 until 22:00, see training calendar for specific dates), and the practical portions will be on the range with a real training class. Participants will also be required to demonstrate their own ability to shoot by maintaining a 95 percent qualification average over the course of the training. We will qualify weekly during which we will be introduced to different types and forms of qualification. Ammunition and equipment requirements are 500 rounds of handgun ammunition, a minimum of three magazines or three speedloaders for the handgun, a secure type of holster system that will keep the handgun and related equipment secure on the shooter during strenuous activity.
